Deck, Garage & Exterior Structure Plans
Practical designs, built to code.
Exterior projects like decks, sheds, carports, and garages need clear plans to comply with zoning and structural guidelines. We draft dimensioned plans, elevations, and supporting details to help you build safely and efficiently.
These drawings are suitable for permit approvals and contractor pricing. Whether it’s a simple backyard deck or a large heated shop, we provide drawings that balance function, safety, and good looks.
Common Questions
Do I need a permit to build or replace a deck?
Replacing deck boards without changing the deck’s size doesn’t need a building permit in Whitehorse. For a new deck, or any change to its size or structure, check the City’s requirements. The City publishes a Decks Checklist, or you can ask us when you request a quote.
Do sheds and garages need a permit?
In Whitehorse, an accessory building or structure larger than 10 square metres (about 108 square feet) needs a building permit. Smaller structures don’t need a building permit, but they still have to meet the Zoning Bylaw’s setback, height, and site coverage rules. Outside city limits, Government of Yukon rules apply, and its guidance refers to accessory structures over 130 square feet.
Will I need a site plan?
Usually. A site plan shows where the structure sits on your property and its distance from the property lines, which is how the zoning rules are checked. We can prepare one along with your plans.
Can I use these plans to get quotes from builders?
Yes. Dimensioned plans, elevations, and supporting details help builders price the job accurately, in addition to supporting a permit application.
Permit requirements can change. Confirm current requirements with the City of Whitehorse (or the Government of Yukon outside city limits) before you build.
